A shocking and completely credible autobiography of the Somali woman Waris Dirie, who escaped from the desert. The reason is not the precarious nomadic life, but the fact that they want to marry her to a man who can be her grandfather... Her uncompromising spirit does not abandon her and manages to withstand all challenges. The escape took her to London with her uncle's family, who sheltered her for several years. But what happens when he has to go back to Mogadishu again? Waris stays and continues to fight in the big city. She was spotted by a famous fashion photographer, who opened the way for her to the catwalk.
In fact, the main idea of the author, who tells her own story, is to emphasize the ancient and violent ritual practiced in Africa. Her motivation is to prevent female circumcision at a very young age, as in Africa it is believed that only in this way is a woman "pure" when she marries. As a child, she almost died because of the violent ritual, and deep down she knows she will never recover from this suffering. Subsequently, he became a UN ambassador and to this day fights against the ritual, and it definitely has a result - fewer and fewer girls are circumcised. But is it possible to change the primitive way of thinking of Africans? One thing is for sure, people like Waris will never give up their cause.
